Tis the Season
The City Witch Files - Celebrating Seasons
Tuesday, 04 December 2007

yule.jpgIt's is that most magical time of the year....YULETIDE!

And even though the retail industry is trying to help everyone bring in 2008 in a very broke fashion, there are ways to give meaningful seasonal gifts that will not break the bank.

Making Yuletide incenses, oils and potpourri are an economical and magical way to not only fill your house with the essence of the season and some wonderful smells, your favorite witch or pagan will really appreciate receiving a wonderful gift of this nature (I know I would).

Heck, even muggles appreciate the wonderful smells of the season to waft through their house via a nice potpourri or incense!

I am going to be making plenty of these gifts for all my  friends who made it to the good list this year! Enjoy!

How To Make Yule Incense

3 PARTS LAVENDER BUDS
3 PARTS CLOVES
3 PARTS CINNAMON
4 PARTS ORRIS ROOT
4 PARTS STORAX
3 PARTS EUCALYPTUS
3 PARTS ROSE
7 PARTS CEDAR WOOD

Grind herbs to a powder before mixing together. Then add green dye till
light green, not too dark.

Yule Incense

2 parts Frankincense
2 parts Pine needles or resin
1 part Cedar
1 part Juniper berries

Mix and smolder on Yule or during the winter months to cleanse the
home and to attune with the forces of nature amid the cold days and nights.

Blessed Esbat !
The City Witch Files - By The Light Of The Moon
Saturday, 24 November 2007

moonlight.jpgWe are now celebrating the full rise of our November or 'Full "Beaver" or "Snow" Moon (from the beavers busy building their winter homes). Also, Full Frost Moon.

Tonight 's esbat, being just two days after Thansgiving, may be a good time to incorporate gratitude and thankfulness into any rituals you perform.

For those new to the path, here is a simple Full Moon Rite created by the beloved Scott Cunningham:

Perform this ritual at night in view of the Full Moon if possible. If not, fill a cauldron with water and place a piece of silver in it.

Cast the circle and invoke the Goddess and God and anyone else you chose to invoke.

Gaze at the moon or your "moon" in your cauldron. Feel its cool Goddess energy wash you with power and love. Say these words.

Wondrous Lady of the Moon
You who greets the dark with silvered kisses
Mistress of the night and all magicks,
who rides the clouds in blackened skies
and spills light upon cold Earth.
Oh Lunar Goddess
Crescent one
Shadow maker and shadow breaker,
Revealer of mysteries past and present,
Puller of seas and ruler of women
All-wise Lunar Mother
I greet your celestial jewel
at the waxing of its powers
with a rite in Your honor
I pray by the moon
I pray by the moon
I pray by the moon

Continue chanting "I pray by the moon" while visualizing the goddess.

Now is the time to work magick or meditation. Crystal scrying is particularly recommended (you can use the silver in the cauldron for this).

Enjoy a simple feast. Thank the Goddess and God and release the circle.

Have A Happy ...

Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate! I don't really becaue the traditional meaning is to me, celebrating the eventual disenfranchising  of an entire race and culture of people, not to mention the near extinction of an entire species of animal (turkey), and I am so thakful every day, I don't need to indulge myself in gluttony and family dysfunction to prove it. But I will be hosting a special holiday podcast to mark the occasion later today.

HAPPY  THANKSGIVING , Y'ALL!
