Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate! I don't really becaue the traditional meaning is to me, celebrating the eventual disenfranchising  of an entire race and culture of people, not to mention the near extinction of an entire species of animal (turkey), and I am so thakful every day, I don't need to indulge myself in gluttony and family dysfunction to prove it. But I will be hosting a special holiday podcast to mark the occasion later today.

HAPPY  THANKSGIVING , Y'ALL!

In Australia, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but we have Australia Day which similarly celebrated the white settlement of our country.

I initially resisted celebrating what I saw as the devastation of an ancient culture, but as time has gone on, whitefellas are learning from the mistakes of our ancestors.

I now see Australia Day as a celebration of the culturally diverse & beautiful sunburnt land we call home. We celebrate our rich and ancient Indigenous culture along with the many other cultures who comprise our nation.

At home however, we just call it my son's birthday.
